Diary - Archives: 2005.Monique at the 2005 ARIA Awards I had forgotten what it was like to walk down the red carpet - bloody awful! Jade my buddy at Rajon (the label releasing my new LP) was running to keep up with me 'cause I was like a rabbit running down that carpet! Very funny night. I was seated in the Gold section which wasn't at the front but not at the back either so that was pretty cool. I liked the fact that at the table beside me sat the Wiggles not in their Wiggles clothes! Amazing! Melinda Schneider sat at the Rajon table too as she has a live DVD coming out filmed and recorded at the Basement in Sydney earlier this year. She is a scream - very nice lady. We had a chuckle at some of the "boob dresses + hot pants" on display. I said that instead of getting fake boobs why don't women just give their blokes a couple of stress balls to squeeze? (-; The after party was at the hotel I was staying at, so I was happy that I didn't have to go far to get home/out of the madness that was pending. The highlight of the night for me was Neil Finn's tribute to Paul Hester. Was choked up by that performance as I think most people were. There was a lot of fuss made of the Hoff - I must admit I did once love watching the Night Rider! So anyway, I cheered and screamed, whistled and yahooed when my mate Mia Dyson took out the Best Blues and Roots release. Mia rocks and my prediction is that she will break into the American market at some stage and continue to be a great role model for women in music. The night got mad - open bars at the hotel and people were getting blotto that's for sure! The ARIAs have changed so much since I last attended in '98. It is big business now more than ever and heaps of young fans everywhere. I think that maybe Idol has played a big part in the change. Liked the fact that it is now dining and not just sitting in a theatre for hours. Although the down side of this is that there is a lot of noise inside - people getting up and moving around, people talking etc. Good that Grinspoon opened the second half of the night. I have always been a fan of theirs - they sound big and fat live so that was cool. Saw the bass player in the lift on my way back to my room and told him that they rocked! Spoke with other musos and industry folk which was great and enjoyed the madness of it all. Ran into a lot of people I hadn't seen since my days signed to Columbia so was good to see them again. On my way up to my room I noticed that the crowd had become a combination of stumbling high heeled women and desperate looking fans with cameras - it was definitely time to go. ARIA night 2005 - I was happy to be there. I really dig the people who are putting out my new album. Great people who have taken the time to get to know me and where my music is coming from. Looks like Thylacine (my 1st LP) will be re released next year. So it will be available again. Hooray! Looking forward to touring with the Bangles next week. Can't wait to get out there and rock out. My Rickenbacker guitar has had some major surgery this week and she is looking and sounding more beautiful than ever! Just in time for the Bangles. So thanks to doctor Brendan at Real Guitars. Thanks to those of you who have been supporting me at live shows. I couldn't do any of this without your support, it means so much to me. So keep rockin' on all you people out there. Be strong and rock on! |
