A New Website, Plenty Of Gigs - And A Whole Lot More
As you can see, we have a brand new site with a brand new look at www.moniquebrumby.com(.)

We welcome back the original web master of the Lava Lounge, Gino Premici, which was the first ever Monique Brumby site on the web way back when.
Thanks to Anthony Horan for his years of service to moniquebrumby.com. Anthony’s plate has been very full of late but he will still be moderating the message board so look out!

Not only does June bring a new website for Monique but also begins a Wednesday night residency at The Empress in Nth Fitzroy. This week’s guest is Michael Paynter, next week will be Nat Allison, followed by Mosaik and Cooper Street Exit in acoustic mode for the remainder.

Monique will be returning to Perth for some shows after way too long an absence this Queen’s Birthday Weekend. She will be doing shows with Tim Freedman at The Fly By Night on Friday the 9th and at The Hyde Park Hotel on Sunday 11th of June but if you want to see a full set from Monique, get along to her shows on Saturday June 10th at The Norfolk Basement and Sunday June 11th for a late afternoon show at The Balmoral.

Perth people can also tune in to hear Monique on ABC radio this Friday afternoon at 3pm. Monique will be a guest on Bernadette Young’s show and will be playing live so listen out for it!

Thanks to our good friends at Rajon, all three of Monique’s albums are now available in stores again. Monique will also have each album available for sale at live shows so come to a gig and get a personally signed copy after the show!

For those of you in Melbourne and Sydney there will also be some shows with Diesel coming up this month so click the link to the gigs page for all the details.

Look forward to seeing you all at the shows!

Meanwhile, Signal Hill has been re-released on Monique's new label and is now back in stores, distributed by Sony BMG. A re-release of Thylacine is not far away!

The album is completed, mastered, a real physical CD - and it'll be in record stores the first week of March! It's been a long wait, but in a few more weeks you'll all be able to hear what Monique and the band have been working on for the past couple of years. We think you'll like it :-)

Ch-Ch-Ch Changes!
It's been a quiet couple of months here on the site, the main cause of which has been its move to a brand new, super-fast web server located here in Melbourne (previously the site was hosted in the US). As a result of the move, a lot of things need to be tweaked and fixed - just getting access to the server to actually update things was a bit of a challenge, and then there's the dozens of things that need reconfiguring so they'll work properly again. On top of that I've built and set up a new super-fast home computer and have had that to deal with as well. We're getting there, though, and everything will be properly back in action very soon. If you notice anything on the site that's not quite right which I may have missed, please email me and let me know so I can add it to my (long) list! Note also that the mailing list is currently out of action due to the server move; I'll be replacing it with new mailing list software in the next day or two.

A New Message From Monique
Monique has a new message for you all, which can be found in the usual place or by clicking here. It's been in limbo waiting to be uploaded for a couple of weeks, so forgive the references to the "upcoming" Bangles tour that's actually just finished (and which, by the way, was a huge success!)

Album Release Approaches
Into The Blue, Monique's third full-length studio album, will be released to the wider world early 2006, via rapidly expanding company Rajon Music. Distribution will be via Sony Music, so you'll see the album in record stores around the country. As soon as we have a definite release date, we'll let you know!

September 7th, 2005

Prepare For The Spiegeltent!
Monique will be playing her first-ever show at the Famous Spiegeltent this October - and it's sure to be a brilliant show! ALong with the full band there'll be some special guests who we can't reveal just yet, and of course the incredible atmosphere and history of the Spiegeltent itself (if you're not familiar with this little travelling wonder, its web site will tell you all you need to know!) Tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster - and we recommend you get hold of them fast, as Spiegeltent shows have a habit of selling out well in advance of the actual date. Details and a link to book tickets online can be found, as always, on the upcoming shows page. This show will also serve as a kind of "pre-launch" for Monique's new album Into The Blue, which now looks likely to land in record stores next March (stay tuned for full details).

Monique To Tour With The Bangles
You all know their music, but most of you have never seen them live - because they've never toyred Australia before. But this November The Bangles finally make it to Australia to play some long overdue shows, and Monique is thrilled to announce that she will be the support act for the entire tour (with the exception of Western Australia)! Dates, details and (where available) internet ticketing links can all be found on the newly-updated upcoming shows page, and you can read the announcement from The Bangles themselves on this page on their official site. And of course this pairing of artists makes perfect sense - after all, both Monique and The Bangles' Susanna Hoffs play Rickenbacker guitars, after all!

Album Pre-Release Copies Available!
A lot of you have been hanging out to hear Into The Blue, and while a retail release date is still yet to be finalised, we're delighted to give you the chance to buy a pre-release copy from a special limited pressing run being done just for visitors to this site. For details, send an email to management@moniquebrumby.com and say you want one. By the way, final mastering on the album was completed recently at the legendary Sterling Sound in New York, and it sounds absolutely brilliant...!

Lots Of Gigs In May
A set of live shows for May has been added to the Gigs page, including a quick tour supporting Neil Murray for the launch of his new album, as well as shows in Melbourne and Adelaide.

Monique will be in Tasmania next week for a couple of live shows in Hobart and Launceston (details are on the upcoming shows page) and while there will be doing an interview and live performance on ABC Radio on Thursday 25th November at 3pm - be sure to tune in! Then on Friday 26th, Launceston daily paper The Advocate will be running an interview with Monique.

Nice One, Mr McKercher!
Congratulations to producer and engineer Paul McKercher, who this week won not one, but two ARIA Awards - Producer of the Year and Engineer of the Year - for his work on Eskimo Joe's current album. One of Australia's finest studio talents with a resume that reads like a list of Records You Need To Own, Paul has previously produced, engineered and mixed the original single version of Monique's Silver Dollars (his recording was remixed for the album version), mixed that single's two b-side tracks, and mixed the radio version of Driving Home.

Monique's eagerly-awaited third full-length studio album Into The Blue is complete and will, as soon as mastering and artwork are taken care of (and no, the web site's cover image is not the finished album clover!) soon have an actual release date. A listen to some early rough mixes of a few of the tracks some weeks ago confirmed that this one's going to be Monique's most entrancing and exciting album yet (yes, THAT good!) Into The Blue was co-produced and recorded by Doug Roberts (renowned for his work with Things of Stone and Wood, Chris Wilson and Deborah Conway) and features guest appearances from Paul Kelly, Michael Spiby and Kerri Simpson. Stay tuned for more information on the album's release date and, of course, the launch tour (signing up for the email list is a good idea!)

Melbourne Shows Cancelled, Some Remain
Well, we promised we'd let you know...! Monique has been successfully battling the chicken pox bug over the past couple of weeks, and is feeling a lot better. However, recovery takes time, and the hectic schedule of shows over the next month simply wasn't a good idea for a recovering-from-chickenpox person at the moment. So regrettably, all of the upcoming Melbourne shows that we had listed have been cancelled, with the exception of three. Those are:

  • This Sunday, December 1st - "A Day on the Green" at the Eyton-On Yarra winery in the Yarra Valley, with The Whitlams, Vika and Linda Bull and Ross Wilson;
  • Friday, December 13th - "Witches' Christmas" at the Cornish Arms with Kerri Simpson and Wendy Rule;
  • Saturday, December 14th - supporting Andy White at the Cornish Arms.

All the above shows will be acoustic-based sets with Maryanne. The full-band shows will be back in the new year, and as soon as we've got dates we'll let you know. In the meantime, though, do come along to one of the above gigs - the last for 2002 - and don't worry, there'll be plenty of new shows in 2003!

Message Board Throws A Tantrum
The trusty message board has decided to stop working properly due to some change at our ISP that's still a mystery. To solve the problem, I 've decided to replace it with a newer, spiffier, simpler and faster message board, so please bear with me while I try and make THAT work...!

WA Shows Postponed Due To Illness
Unfortunately, both Monique and Riders guitarist Tom Rouch have been hit with a case of that spottiest of illnesses, chickenpox. This has meant a few last-minute changes in schedule, needless to say, but the biggest one of those is next week's Western Australian tour - it's had to be postponed until early next year.

Monique wants to let her fans know that she is extremely upset at not being able to fulfil her tour schedule and was considering coming anyway. However, Monique's doctor advised against this as both herself and Tom are currently very spotty, itchy and very contagious as they have just been diagnosed!

Monique says; "I feel terrible that we can't do the shows but we are able to reschedule the flights for early next year and by that time Tom and I should be well and truly ache and scab free. Oh the glamour of it all! I am so disappointed because I have been looking forward to visiting WA again. We have put ads in the papers and I know that the venues will be put out also. My body just won't mend in time and I would hate to infect folks who come to the shows. The spots and ugliness I can deal with, as both Tom and I have them on our faces but I couldn't risk other people getting sick. This couldn't have come at a worse time but all we can do for now is rest, get well again and rock with you all in WA in the new year."

At this stage, the shows scheduled for late November and early December in Victoria are still on, but we'll let you know of any changes to that via the email list and the upcoming shows page.

In the meantime, you patient people in WA have a couple more months to properly learn the words to all the songs on Signal Hill via the conveniently-included lyric booklet!

Exclusive New Song To Download!
With the release of Signal Hill just around the corner, we figure it's a good time to thank all you loyal web site visitors for the support - and what better way to say thanks than to give you access to a new song that you won't find anywhere else? The River is a brilliant, evocative song that Monique recorded during early sessions for Signal Hill. With so many great songs around as the album took shape, it was inevitable that some wouldn't make it onto the finished album, and The River was one of them. But it's every bit as good as the songs that did make it on to the album, and we're pleased to make it available for you to download from the audio page for a limited time! The song was co-written by Monique and Steve Moffat, a name that some will recognise - he co-wrote the music for Fallen Angel from Monique's first album Thylacine.

Album Release Moved Forward
The release date for Signal Hill has been pushed forward a week, so you'll be able to walk into record stores and get your hands on a copy a week earlier than expected! The confirmed release date is now Monday 7th October, through Shock Distribution. Those going along to the shows on the October tour of regional Victoria will of course be able to buy copies of the album - and t-shirts! - at the shows.

New Album On The Way (Finally!!)
As you may have noticed from the new image on the front page of this site, Monique's long-awaited second album Signal Hill is now very close to being ready for the world - the recording process is finally finished, and the album's currently being mixed. When it's finished and manufactured, those of you who've been patiently visiting this site, going to the live shows and waiting will be the first to have the chance to grab a copy of the disc. This site will be undergoing some large-scale expansion and subtle redesign over the coming few months, and a lot of the things you've asked for will finally happen - lots more images, articles, a comprehensive discography, the ability to buy Monique's CDs online, and - most excitingly - FULL LENGTH songs available for download, including material not available on CD. Your eternal patience is about to be rewarded! In the meantime, there are some new images in the images section (click the link on the right) - three new promo shots and a new live "collage" image are now available. The images from 2000 have been moved to their own section, with the new photos now in the "current images" section. Very soon we'll have the final album artwork for you to look at, too (the one on the front page is an earlier version). Monique will be posting a message to you all in the next few days as well, and there's lots more to come in the lead-up to the long-overdue arrival of Signal Hill.

Cornish Arms Gig Cancelled
The show at the Cornish Arms that was set for February 22nd has been cancelled due to the good old "circumstances beyond our control" syndrome - but many more gigs are on the way. A new date has been added in March for those of you in Hobart, and more Melbourne dates are expected to be added in the coming week or two. As always, keep a close eye on the gigs page for the latest schedule.

Grab Your Silver Dollars While You Can!
Monique tells me that the Silver Dollars CD single is coming very close to being completely sold out - and once it's gone, there will be no more made, so if you've been tossing up whether or not to buy one, now's the time to act! Aside from copies currently in record stores (for Melbourne readers who've been searching, I noticed last week that Borders in South Yarra has a good half-dozen copies on their shelf; other Borders stores should also have copies) there's only a very few discs left. It's worth pointing out that not only are the two "B-side" tracks on the single NOT on the album, but also that Silver Dollars has been reworked and remixed for Signal Hill and will, on the album, be notably different from the CD single version. Collector's-item status fast approaches...!

Espy Gig Cancelled
Monique has just rung while on her way up to Bendigo for tonight's show to say that due to a booking error made by the venue, her gig scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday November 3rd) at the Esplanade Hotel in St Kilda has been cancelled. Apologies for the short notice - this was completely beyond Monique's control. We're hoping that some further Melbourne shows can be scheduled before the end of the year, and of course we'll let you know the second that they are.

The New Album - The Wait Is Nearly Over
It's been a long, long time coming, but we're pleased to be able to announce that Monique's eagerly-awaited second album Signal Hill will be completed and manufactured by mid-December 2001, and available to buy hopefully before Christmas! Monique returns to the studio soon to complete work on the album, which has existed in a semi-finished rough-mix state for a long time now. We'll have a track listing for you as soon as possible, but in the meantime, there's a message from Monique for all of you on this page; this one will also be going out via the email news list.

New Live Shows And Date Changes
A good amount of new live dates have been added to the list over on the gigs page, along with a couple of changes. Most notably, the Esplanade Hotel show that was scheduled for this Saturday October 13th has been postponed due to circumstances beyond Monique's control; it has been rescheduled for Saturday 3rd November. Also, the Summertime Rocks free show at the Victorian Arts Centre has been moved to Sunday 13th January 2002, and will now feature Stephen Cummings on the same bill.

Saloon Cancellation
Monique's show with Chris Wilson tomorrow night (Wednesday 9th) at the South Yarra Saloon has been cancelled due to circumstances totally out of Monique's or Chris's control - the venue has been extensively renovating, and completion of that work is running behind schedule. Apologies for the late notice, but we just found out ourselves! Those of you on the email news list will get an email about this as well. No need to worry, though, because the cancellation has merely delayed this regular Wednesday gig for a week - Monique and Chris will now play next Wednesday 16th May at the Saloon, and then every Wednesday after that into June. New Single Completed
It's been a long time coming, but Monique's new single - the first released material from the upcoming Signal Hill album - is being manufactured as we speak. This is a one-off limited-edition run of only 500 copies - they'll be available at Monique's gigs during her December tour, but you'll be able to hear the songs on the radio before then. The "proper" release of the single will happen early next year, followed by the album; record company stuff is still being worked out. The single contains three songs - the freshly-recorded Silver Dollars, along with non-album bonus tracks (freshly mixed by Paul McKercher) Outnumbered and Waiting For The World. The third bonus track that I mentioned earlier, Precious Bird, has been held off for the time being and will appear on a later single. And how do they sound? Well, you're in for a treat! The three tracks are very different from each other, from the slinky late-night groove of Silver Dollars to the big-chorus blast of Outnumbered and the edgy rock of Waiting For The World. It's Monique's best work to date. Audio previews will be online soon.

The four-song CD single - packaged in a slimline jewel case rather than the Digipak used for Eventide - will be distributed by Shock. Lead track is Silver Dollars, with some terrific bonus b-side tracks in Outnumbered, Precious Bird and Waiting For The World. Keep an eye on this site for an audio preview; we're still waiting on a release date, but you'll be the first to know once one is set!
